Miscellaneous Instruments
The Jevan System
Place lingual bonded retainers effortlessly
The Jevan System contains three instruments: the Jevan Thumb and the two Jevans, one
for the maxilla and the other for the mandible. They work for both right and left handed
operators.
The Jevan Thumb is used for accurate placement of the lingual wire. The Jevan is then used
to tightly adapt the wire to the tooth surface. The tip of the Jevan is concave shaped to
cradle the lingual wire for better control.
The Jevan and the Jevan Thumb allow for the direct placement of the lingual retainer wire
by permitting the operator to have better control.
With the Jevan Thumb, the operator can start the placement of the lingual wire with
precision. The Jevan is then used to tightly adapt the lingual wire to lingual tooth surface.
Additionally, the vertical placement of the wire is easily controlled using the Jevan,
therefore avoiding a lingual bonded retainer that is too close to the incisal edge of the
tooth or impinging the gingival tissue. The offset tip allows the operator to easily and
accurately control the position of the lingual wire.

Step 1
Step 2 Step 3
Step 1: Use the Jevan Thumb
to hold lingual wire in position
Step 2: With a slight twist
action, hold wire in place with
the Jevan Thumb while bonding
Step 3: Use the Jevan to adapt
and hold the lingual wire while
bonding.
Finish: A lingual retainer that
is tightly adapted and placed
at the proper vertical height.

Thumb to start the placement of the
lingual wire.
The lingual wire can be visualised and
placed accurately with ease.
The concave tip of the Jevan allows for vertical
control of the lingual wire. It cradles the lingual
wire allowing superior control during placement.
The straight end of the Jevan is used for “forced”
adaptation to the lingual surface permitting
correction of slight rotations.
